About event

A discussion with authors and a musical guest.

The November discussion from the cycle 1+1 will be about how life used to be in the Slovak countryside. We will also focus on family history, past and present forms of folklore in Slovakia, but also on the love of writing and reading.

Our guests will be Júlia Marcinová, ethnologist, folklorist and author of the popular multi-generational novel Kde si sa published, ask for milk there, and the poet and folklorist Karolína Kováčová.

The event will take place on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. in the central library on Hviezdoslavová Street. 5.

We will be accompanied musically by the group Soren.

You are all cordially invited.

Júlia Marcinová is a graduate of the former Department of Ethnology and Ethnomusicology in Nitra, where she completed rigorous studies in 2011. In the years 2019-2021, she worked as an internal doctoral student at the Department of Mediamatics and Cultural Heritage in Žilina. Since his university studies, he has been researching traditional and fashionable clothing. She is the author of several professional articles, studies and independent monographs, in which she focuses primarily on clothing and ornamentation. She collaborated with ÚĽUV, the National Educational Center and is the author of several educational workbooks for children. For ten years, she worked as a singer and dancer in FS Rozsutec, and in addition to her passion for folklore, she also enjoys reading and writing books. She is the author of the multi-generational novel Where you got married, ask for milk there. She is the mother of three children and currently the director of the Regional Cultural Center in Žilina.

Karolína Kováčová studied Slovak language and literature in combination with religious education at the Catholic University in Ružomberok. His love for literature remained, not only in his reading hobby, but also in his creation - especially poetry, he writes in a drawer, but out of essential need and sometimes he sends a poem on as a gift and here and there to the world for some literary competition. For several years, she worked as a singer in FS Rozsutec, where she also met Júlia Marcinová - Knapcová for the first time. It was a beautiful time, where several things close to the heart came together: singing, folklore, travel and friendships. She spent her youth in scouting and with the Salesians in Žilina, and to this day something from that period remains rare and lasting: friendships and breaths of nature, best when it's all together.

The 1+1 event as part of the VKJB 2024 project was supported from public funds by the Art Support Fund.
