Guillaume Nicloux, Fr./Belg., 2024, 99 min., fr. ver., Czech. tit.
Paris, 1896. Sarah Bernhardt is more colorful than life itself and is a hurricane of opposites. As is the custom of a true stage diva, her world revolves around dazzling spotlights, opulent wealth, delicious scandals and absorbing affairs. She is controlled by volatile moods and tense emotions, she even judges herself from her hospital bed. And what better time in the 19th century to return to her breakout star career than while she's recovering from surgery? The "divine" Sarah Bernhardt, patron of Alfonso Mucha, friend of Victor Hugo and "little star" of Alexandre Dumas, defied social expectations, adored tense scenes of stage death, and shocked her convent, where she was raised as a nun, by arranging the funeral of her lizard. The film vividly tells the tumultuous story of Sarah Bernhardt and chronicles the chameleon actress who defined a generation.
