About event
We invite you to celebrate the holiday that we like the most and is the most important for us and our lives - the holiday of democracy and freedom. We cannot take November 17th away and we will not allow undemocratic politicians to turn it into an ordinary day.
17. WE CELEBRATE NOVEMBER!
We have been planning a protest meeting for a long time, which this time demands, but we decided to return to our weapons - art, music, culture. A celebration that will be a worthy celebration of what we love most about art - that it is free and able to say important things in non-trivial language. November 17th in Žilina we will (re)celebrate with a famous concert - the bands FALLGRAPP and FVLCRVM will play, there will be a few strong sentences and a light installation by Ján Šicek, we also want folklore (#nebojimsapana!).
To make the celebration a success, we need your help. Join the fundraiser at Startlab and let's pay for the famous FALLGRAPP and FVLCRVM double concert and the entire big evening for 500 spectators from your own. The reward for your support will be tickets for a celebration and a concert in the New Synagogue, and if more can be collected, the continuation of other cultural activities for which the current government has already banned public support.
Additional bonus – every euro you donate to Startlab will multiply the Ü Endowment Fund for the support of civil society by the same amount.
Thank you for your support. See you on November 17 in the New Synagogue!

17. November is the day when we proudly remember the events of November 1939 and November 1989. A day that entered our history twice with the non-violent resistance of our ancestors against fascism and communism. The anniversary of the events that have made Slovakia a free and democratic country for 36 years.
We invite all people who respect democratic values and who care about the free future of Slovakia to come and celebrate this memorable day together.
We invite you in an era marked by attempts to rewrite history, suppression of democracy and freedom, attacks on the media and civil society, as well as questioning of our belonging to Western civilization.
Let's defend what we ourselves and our ancestors won thirty-five years ago. Together we are a force! The truth will prevail!

If you don't know the bands, let yourself be invited - this is one of the best we have here and we promise a powerful live experience. We spent half a year discussing who would be the best performer for such a day.
The band FALLGRAPP belongs to the most remarkable Slovak music projects. The sophisticated combination of electronics, live instruments and captivating female vocals, layered arrangements, unconventional approach to Slovak lyrics and strong visuals make every concert an experience on the border between serious music and pop.
It has been active on the scene since 2013, when it was founded by producer and musician Jureš Líška. The originally solo project evolved into a six-member ensemble led by singer Nora Ibsenová, accompanied from time to time by a string trio. Fallgrapp mainly perform concerts in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, but they have also performed at several foreign festivals.
So far, they have released four albums, each of which took their sound one step further. The debut Riek (2014) won a record four Radio_Head Awards 2014. V Hmle (2017) brought a wider spectrum of sounds and collaborations with names such as Jana Kirschner, Juraj Benetin and Vec. Ostrov (2020) was their most mature work to date – colorful, dynamic and still original.
Their current effort is the album Anthropos, in which they retain their own signature, but also surprise with experimental elements bringing new musical emotions.

On the edge between mainstream and underground, FVLCRVM aka Pišta Kráľovič is a celebration of the unpredictability profiled by the Slovak suburbs. ADHD production of fringe club genres interwoven with pop vocal lines with the help of the stuck sounds of the 1990s, will make you dance (we promise!) as it should be at the end of a proper celebration.
FVLCRVM was born in the period of hope for the post-Soviet future and belongs to the first generation that had free access to Western music. His artistic vision was influenced by video clips from the early 1990s and early 2000s, burnt CDs and local subcultures, which often did not understand the mixing of different musical styles. Thanks to that, it was important for him to blur the line between underground and pop. During his teenage years, he was even kicked out of the church band because of it. Thank God. And since he likes to expand his audience, he often collaborates with artists representing complete opposites on the scene.
The skillset of the instrumentalist, DJ and motion designer is evident in his self-produced visuals, which turn every performance into a euphoric experience. This cemented his reputation as an ace up the sleeve of promoters, who has been surprising audiences for years from intimate club raves to the main stages of the biggest festivals in the region, including the main stage of Pohoda in 2022. freedom
This year the world commemorates the 150th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Mann, one of the most important German writers and intellectuals of the 20th century. Mann was a humanist who defended the ideas of freedom and democracy and warned against the threats of Nazism. How can Mann's legacy be understood today? What does it teach us about responsibility towards the surrounding world in the age of polarization? Can digital art interpret his thoughts and offer new perspectives? We will discover Manna together through the light installation of visual artist Ján Šicek on the walls of the Synagogue. Fragments of the writer's thoughts become a living image in it. At the same time, fragments of texts and dynamic typography confront us with the question of what it means to search for truth and freedom in the digital era, where both text and image are subject to constant manipulation. The work was presented at White Night thanks to the support and on the facade of the Goethe Institute in Bratislava, thanks to which it will also be transferred to Žilina.
Ján Šicko (SK) – multimedia surfer, among other things graphic designer and teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, where he founded and runs MediaLab* – a specialized environment exploring the frontier spheres of visual communication. Creator of interactive installations, audiovisual performances, computer games, VJ working under the DevKid brand, National Design Award Winner, long-distance runner.
