In 1964, The Beatles released «I Want to Hold Your Hand», Zeca Afonso his first album and António Calvário won the Festival da Canção RTP, with «Oração». Portugal was facing the war of the former colonies. In Russia, Khrushchev was deposed and gave way to Brezhnev. It was in that same year that two musicians born in 1906 composed the works that the Metropolitana Soloists perform in this program. The 1st String Quartet by Fernando Lopes Graça reflects an evolution of style that brought him closer to Schostakovich's rhythmic and harmonic restlessness. It is no coincidence that it “talks well” with this 10th String Quartet by the Russian composer.
