2. Maltese drop of blood in Nitra - invitation
On the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, we invite members, volunteers and friends and supporters of the Order of Malta in Nitra to the 2nd Maltese drop of blood, which will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the collection center of the National Transfusion Service at the Faculty Hospital in Nitra, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Those interested in donating blood and participating in the event must register by June 10, 2026 at the email address: [email protected]. Registered applicants will receive detailed organizational information in the days immediately before the event. Everyone is warmly welcome and we thank everyone in advance!
World Blood Donor Day every year on June 14 is supported by organizations such as the WHO, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRCCS), the International Federation of Blood Donor Organizations (FIODS), or the International Society for Blood Transfusion (ISBT) and it has been commemorated since 2004. Karl Landsteiner was born on this day in 1968, who was a doctor and winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology for determining the system of 4 blood groups. He also participated in the discovery of the Rh factor. The day is an opportunity to thank voluntary blood donors who do an invaluable service for society without any reward, and at the same time, its aim is to encourage and encourage other people to follow them.
