About event
Exactly twenty years ago, in the autumn of 2005, an extraordinary finding was discovered in Poprad-Matejovce-the Germanic princely tomb from the end of the 4th century. This discovery significantly expanded our knowledge of the period at the end of the Roman period, which preceded the permanent Slavic settlement of Slovakia. At the lecture you will learn more about the circumstances of the discovery, its rescue, research and museum presentation at the Podtatranský Museum in Poprad. You will also learn who the young man was buried under the Tatras and what his tomb revealed about his life and death.
In the first lecture of the autumn cycle of the archaeological café we welcome Mgr. Tereza Štolcová, PhD., From the Institute of Archeology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, V.V.I., which spent 20 years of her professional life with this exceptional finding, from muddy research in the field through continuing detailed research in the German laboratory to the study of discovered textiles and remnants of clothing. Admission 3 € (paid at the cash register of the SNM - Archaeological Museum).
