The November lecture at the Archaeological Café will be thematic - graves, burial grounds and the people who were buried in them. Members of the research team, archaeologists Mgr. Daniel Javorek and Mgr. Jakub Tamaškovič, PhD.:
In the lecture we will present new researches of the archaeological site in the vicinity of the Čierna Voda stream, in the cadastre of Bernolákova, investigated by the company Archeologická Agentúra s.r.o. in the years 2023 to 2025. The individual sites consisted mainly of burial areas belonging to several historical periods. The communities that were buried here are separated by almost 2,500 years. In addition to the newly discovered finds, the research team also managed to uncover the remaining part of the burial ground from the period of the Avar Khaganate, which was last explored in the 1950s.
The purpose of the post is to bring visitors closer to the individual communities that were connected to this place starting from the early Bronze Age until the dawn of Great Moravia. Who were these people? In what ways did they bury their loved ones and what testimonies were left to us after their departure? With examples of interdisciplinary cooperation in the analysis of archaeological findings, we want to show how contemporary archeology goes not only below the surface of the terrain, but also literally below the surface of the artifacts themselves in order to understand their meaning and origin even more comprehensively.
The lecture is intended for the general public. Entrance fee €3 (payable at the SNM - Archaeological Museum cash desk, payment only possible in cash).
