About event
Lecture by Benjamin Kromoser
3D printing with Wood
As part of the module Emerging Fields in Architecture (++), HB2, TU Vienna

The lecture is dedicated to the topics of circular economy and digitalization in construction. In addition to basic approaches, a structure of possible approaches to establishing a real circular economy is given. It also shows ways in which digitalization can help reduce the ecological impact of construction.

The Emerging Fields in Architecture module imparts current knowledge from new research fields in architectural and engineering disciplines, with the aim of addressing current and future design challenges in a broader social context in an interdisciplinary and fundamental manner. The lectures impart knowledge about different and interdisciplinary approaches to design, current developments and results of material and construction method research, about planning and building under/in extreme conditions as well as about structures that change or develop due to changing parameters.
In this context, strategies for design development (from the initial idea to implementation) are questioned in an interdisciplinary discourse, and the question of how the path from idea to realization can be shaped and to what extent it is possible to be systematically creative is examined to be.
Prof. Kromoser studied civil engineering at the Vienna University of Technology and then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Supporting Structures, where he received his doctorate in 2015. He then conducted post-doctoral research at the TU Vienna until 2018 and was also a visiting scientist at the Institute for Lightweight Construction, Design and Construction at the University of Stuttgart. Since 2018 he has been a professor at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU) and in 2022 he founded the new institute for building construction, timber construction and circular construction, which he now also heads. He is also the spokesman for the Doctoral School BUILD.NATURE at BOKU.
