About event

On four Fridays a year, four museums in Potsdam's center invite you to visit them free of charge.

The event takes place in the Filmmuseum Potsdam, in the Potsdam Museum - Forum for Art and History, and in the Brandenburg Museum (former House of the Brandenburgisch Prussian History (HBPG)) and in the Natural History Museum Potsdam.

Dates 2024:
22. March
28. June
27. September
27. December

The exhibition “KARL FOERSTER. New Paths – New Gardens” provides insights into the diverse work and personality of the Potsdam garden artist and, for the first time, also shows exhibits from the Foerster House. The exhibition “KARL HAGEMEISTER “Nature is Great”” invites you to atmospheric viewing and listening experiences in the sensory landscapes of the impressionist open-air painter from Werder. The permanent exhibition “Potsdam. A City Makes History” tells the 1,000-year history of the city up to the present in an entertaining and memorable way using original objects, audio and film contributions.

In the Potsdam Natural History Museum, wolves, elks and co. are waiting for small and large museum guests. How does the woodpecker drum and call? What does the underground burrow of a mole or field hamster look like? Brandenburg's colorful wildlife can be discovered in the middle of the historic city center. A highlight – the aquarium in the basement – shows almost 40 native fish species in 17 tanks. The special exhibition “SUS100 – Man Changes Pigs” – on loan from the central magazine for natural science collections at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg – can be visited until September 1st of this year. The exhibits not only show the external changes of the animals, but also the development of the human perspective on the pig. A short tour of the museum's highlights is offered on free Friday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. - a nice opportunity to find out more about some animal species.

The Brandenburg Museum (former House of Brandenburg-Prussian History) invites you to a free visit from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to the “Brandenburg.Exhibition” on 1000 years of Brandenburg history and culture and the current special exhibition Sven Johne “Free World” with the film “The Soviet Headquarters”, two photo series by the artist and a thematic route through the entire museum on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Brandenburg.

In the Filmmuseum Potsdam, the oldest film museum with its own collections and exhibitions in Germany, visitors can visit the film museum free of charge The permanent exhibition TRAUMFABRIK takes you on an interactive journey through the history of the Babelsberg film studios and experiences valuable original exhibits, films and filmmakers from over 112 years of Babelsberg expertise. The crafts and processes of film creation are explained, which can also be tried out in a playful, intuitive way. The new temporary exhibition FULL OF LIFE – ANDREAS DRESEN AND TEAM can also be viewed free of charge on this day. The Potsdam director is respected and awarded nationally and internationally for his feature films and documentaries as well as for his plays and opera productions. The Potsdam Film Museum keeps the working materials of the director and some of his long-time team members in its collections. The exhibition is staged as a walk-in collage and illuminates work processes between script and premiere.
