About event
🎬 Discussion Meeting & FILM Cycle: 50 years since Vietnam expelled the USA invaders. 🎬
📌 KEY DATA FROM AN ANTI-COLONIAL PERSPECTIVE
1️⃣ Why did it start?
The US invaded Vietnam (1964-1975) to prevent reunification under a socialist government. Under the pretext of fighting against the "communist enemy".
Millions of tons of bombs (more than in all of WWII) and Agent Orange (a poison that still causes malformations) were used against the Vietnamese population.
2️⃣ The people as heroes
Vietcong (FNL) and the North Vietnamese Army: Peasant guerrillas and soldiers using tunnels and popular resistance.
3️⃣ Global solidarity
Movements such as the Black Panthers, May '68, and the Third World supported Vietnam. Jane Fonda and Muhammad Ali denounced the war.
4️⃣ The end of the war (April 30, 1975)
Vietnamese tanks entered Saigon, defeating the US and its South Vietnamese puppet state.
First U.S. military defeat in its history.
💡 WHY REMEMBER TODAY?
Because Vietnam proved that organized people could defeat a superpower.
Because Agent Orange and bombs still kill (the US never compensated!).
Because imperialism continues: Palestine, Cuba, and the Congo struggle today.
