About event
On May 8, 2026, we will commemorate the 81st anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. This day is also the Day of Victory over Fascism.
In the SNP Museum, we prepared a program for schools and other visitors on this occasion. In addition, the museum will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. free of charge.
WE WILL REMEMBER THE VICTIMS OF WAR
From 11:00 a.m., we will remember those who died in World War II by laying wreaths at the grave of the unknown fighter of the Slovak National Uprising. The speeches of the guests will also be heard.
MILITARY MUSIC CONCERT
A short concert of Banská Bystrica Military Music is prepared after the memorial service.
ACCOMPANIMENT EVENTS
From 9:00 a.m., a lecture by museum historian Tomáš Hofírek will take place in the museum cinema hall on the topic of the last days of the largest war conflict in Europe. After it ends, a discussion with veteran Vladimír Strmeň is planned. Throughout the day, museum visitors will be able to familiarize themselves with the museum, its open depository and visit the SNP 1944 multimedia exhibition. Presentation and educational activities are also planned. In the afternoon, a selection of documentaries produced by the SNP Museum will be shown in the cinema hall. In addition to the museum exhibits, visitors will be introduced to history by soldiers from the Golian Military History Club in period uniforms.
Entrance to the event on May 8, 2026 is free.
