Four songs on an EP called “You Don't Have To Be Yourself Right Now” – that's all we've heard from 86TVs yet. The new British indie rock supergroup is keeping things exciting and has taken the time they need to record their first record. Hugo and Felix White from The Maccabees, their brother Will and Jamie Morrison from the Stereophonics have been working on the project for a while. The quartet is slowly about to share their debut album with the world - an album that crackles and crackles with all the excitement and inventiveness of a band in their first burst of creativity. In 2017, when south London heroes The Maccabees called it quits after 14 years together, the band had just recorded a number one album, won an Ivor Novello Award and headlined their first festival. Still, they felt they had taken the group as far as it could go and bowed out with three sold-out nights at London's Alexandra Palace. But there was no time off; instead, the siblings enjoyed finally making music again purely for the fun of it. But as is sometimes the case, after Morrison sat down at the drums and introduced new ideas, 86TVs took off. The only question that remained was: Who should actually sing? Should there be a new frontman? The question almost answered itself when the three brothers sang together in unison into the microphone during a rehearsal and Morrison supported them. This magical moment convinced the boys: the whole band is the front man, variety is the program. You could already experience how good that sounds last September when 86TVs played their first, acclaimed concert with us in Cologne and also left a happy crowd at the Reeperbahn Festival. Somewhere between indie and art rock and full of newfound joy of playing, the four have developed a style that has convinced the audience not only with the music but also with the band's charisma.
