About event
The speaker at the Kassai University of Knowledge is Mgr. Loránt Pregi, PhD., a staff member of the Institute of Geography of the P.J. Šafárik University of Kassai.
After the "Velvet Revolution" of 1989, significant political, economic and social transformations took place in Slovakia, as in most post-socialist countries in Central and Eastern Europe. These changes not only transformed the economic structure and the labor market, but also had a significant impact on migration processes within the country.
In the period before the regime change, internal migration was primarily characterized by rural-urban moves, which were determined by the strong attraction of industrialization and urban workplaces. From the 1990s, however, a new trend emerged, suburbanization. This process resulted in rapid and spectacular population growth, especially in the agglomeration around Bratislava.
Migration is a selective process in which age and education play an important role. Different social groups participate in migration to different extents, which in the long term significantly influences the development of the social and economic structure of individual regions.
The purpose of the presentation is to provide an overview of the main trends of internal migration after the regime change and to present their spatial and social effects in Slovakia in the last three decades.
