We have heard the name of this place so many times, and
what a party it is
to climb this mountain on the second weekend of the new year, together with hundreds of tourists. ..
Well, now we are lining up for this climb, organized by our association.
Dernő (Drnava) is a mining village in the south of the Volovec Mountains at the foot. Count Andrássy Dénes, the owner of the Krasznahorka castle, had a famous foundry here and owned the surrounding mines. A 3 km long valley leads from Drnava pod Pipitku, through which the Lepkavý stream flows. We climb the ridge on the right side of the valley. When we get below Tekvičník (863 m), the landscape opens up and a view of the valley and the ridge opposite, on which we will descend to the village, becomes possible. 7-8 years ago there was a windfall near Pipitke and logging took place.
Čipkov vrch and Lipovec
We start on the ridge path to Čipkov vrch (966 m).
At its peak you will see the first rock formations, which were already overgrown with birch trees. From here to Lipovec, the ridge is mostly narrow, scattered with numerous small and large rocks, and in some places there are steep rocks. Pipitke and the valley of the Lepkavý stream can be seen from the rocks. With a gentle descent we reach the top of Lipovac (847 m), on which there is a beautiful rock town. The sun illuminates the large moss-covered rocks, the trees are bent strangely by the wind. It is a beautiful, undisturbed wilderness. According to local experts, their cave has characteristics in the rocks here. We carefully descend the steep rocks and go down the ridge to our next point.
Devil's Castle
After a few minutes we descend the steep slope to the last outcrop of the ridge, the so-called Devil's Castle (677 m ). It definitely deserves its name. In front of us, two huge rock peaks appear between the trees, about 50 m apart. The disintegrating rocks have created large boulders, which affect the human imagination with their bizarre shapes. The rocks are covered with moss and the beautiful green color contrasts sharply with the white snow around it. The trees on top of the rocks complete the beautiful atmosphere. We climb both peaks and enjoy the last view. To the left is the crest of Volovskévrchy, and in front of us is the Bôrčanská (popularly known as Borčianska) plain and the Bôrčanska brádza (Čremošná-
valley) with the dominant Drieňovec (804 m).
Meeting point: Dernőn/Drnava in the village centre, at 9:00 a.m.
Getting there: by public transport or from Bánréve by minibus.
The journey time from Miskolc is 1 hour and 40 minutes by car.

Dernő/Drnava (384 m) – Tekvičník ( 863 m) – Pipityke/Pipitka (1219 m) – Čipkov vrch (966 m) – Lipovec (847 m) – Ördögvár/Certov Hrad (677 m) – Dernő/Drnava (405 m).
Distance: 14 km. Level: 942 m.
In case of heavy snow, we travel to the Dénes saddle (Úhornianske
sedlo) and from there we attack the Pipityke. The route can be seen in the attached picture 2 in the tour notice on the VTBK website.
Route: Dénesi-nyereg/Úhornianske sedlo (1003 m) –
Kis-Pipityke/Malá Pipitka (1080 m) – Pipityke/Pipitka
(1219 m and back.
Distance: 8 km. Level: 340 m.
Return trip: After the celebration in the village
according to the way there.
