About event

BRIAN CHARETTE MEETS TORSTEN GOODS
«ORGAN MEETS GUITAR» «HARLEM MOODS»
FEAT: DAVID HAYNES

«Torsten and I met in Harlem, so I thought, maybe we should have a little something about Harlem in the pitch at the A-Trane. Me and Torsten as we have met each other in Harlem years ago on the Hammond B3 circuit, that was clear, that we do something together. Finally it is happening. We are going to play groovy modern funky jazz. Come out and feel the Harlem vibes at the legendary A-Trane.»
Brian Charette

BRIAN CHARETTE
Brian Charette, born in 1972 in Meriden, Connecticut, is an American jazz musician (organ (Hammond B3), composition, also piano) of modern jazz.
Charette was introduced to music by his mother; At 17, he played with jazz veterans Lou Donaldson and Houston Person. After graduating from the University of Connecticut, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in classical piano performance in 1994, he toured Europe and then lived in Prague. In 1996 the first recordings were made with guitarist Greg Green (Back to the Groove, with Bobby Watson and Cindy Blackman). Since then he has worked, among other things, as a session musician with Joni Mitchell, Chaka Khan, Paul Simon and Cyndi Lauper, in the field of jazz with Will Sellenraad, Jerry Vivino, Mike Merritt & Mharlyn Merritt, Sarah DeLeo. Jordan Young, Mike DiRubbo, Ian Hendrickson-Smith, Vic Juris, Joe Magnarelli, Doug Webb, Walt Weiskopf and Tom Tallitsch.

Charette was also an author and music educator; He wrote for the keyboard magazine Down Beat and the Czech magazine Muzikus. He taught master classes at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague. From 2000 onwards he released a number of albums under his own name, including: on SteepleChase Records. Charette lives and works in New York City. Charette was the winner of the 2004 Down Beat Critics' Poll in the Rising Star: Organ category. In the field of jazz, he was involved in 40 recording sessions between 1996 and 2017.

TORSTEN GOODS
Torsten Goods was born in Düsseldorf in 1980 as the son of an Irish mother and a German father. After the family moved, he grew up in Erlangen. Thanks to his mother's well-stocked record collection - alongside greats from Duke Ellington to Oscar Peterson, there was also a lot of Irish music - he found access to jazz early on. The first steps as a guitarist were, as usual, influenced by pop and rock. Goods began his serious training at the age of 14. In Peter O'Mara he found the teacher who specifically instructed him in improvised music. He was 17 years old at the time and his talent and ambition could not be overlooked, which quickly helped him to take master classes with the greats of the guild. During his school years he attended workshops with Jim Hall and John Scofield in New York and took lessons in Strasbourg with the “gypsy guitar” virtuoso Bireli Lagrene, who had a significant influence on his development.
