In terms of diversity, experimentation and independence, the French jazz scene is one of the most exciting in the world. “What The French”, curated by Andreas Brandis, presents one of the biggest stars of current French jazz in the soprano saxophonist Emile Parisien and one of the country’s most acclaimed rising stars in the trombonist Robinson Khoury.

Emile Parisien is currently considered the most stylistic representative of his instrument. His trademarks: a hypnotic flow of melodies and ideas, breathtakingly virtuosic yet soulful playing and “a combination of European elegance and American exuberance” (The Times). Emile Parisien also places this unifying element at the center of his project “Floating”, together with the French-Israeli pianist and master improviser Yaron Herman, the Australian-American bassist Linda May Han Oh and the Indo-French tabla player Prabhu Edouard. A meeting of four distinctive characters that spans continents and genres.

Robinson Khoury is one of the greatest discoveries of the seemingly limitless French jazz scene. Influences from jazz, rock and electronica flow into his music, as do melodies and moods from his Lebanese roots. This is particularly true of his highly acclaimed trio MŸA together with the percussionist Anissa Nehari and the keyboardist Léo Jassef.
