About event

Behind seven mountains and seven valleys, on the border of Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine, lies an unusual world, a true Central European Patagonia. Bieščady and Poloniny, the land of outcasts and proud people, the land of wolves and bears, but also a popular destination for many tourists. Now you too can get to know it thanks to the Slovak translation of the book by the Polish author Adam Robińský (published by Absynt, 2025, translated by Ján Púček).

📙 About the book
In Kýčera's report with the subtitle Wanderings in Biesčady and Poloniny, you will travel through the Polish, Ukrainian and Slovak borderlands and meet people for whom this part of the Carpathians became destiny: lonely markers, cartographers, people who dedicated their whole lives to these mountains. You will get to know the Greek settlers who put down roots here after being forced to leave their homeland. You will search for the true source of the San River. You will find out how the lives of the residents of Osadný have changed after the successful documentary film by Marko Škop. You will learn about the Ruthenians and about old local names. Kýčera's book is about a specific mountain range, but at the same time it is also a universal guide on how to understand and encompass a certain part of the world and in what different ways we can get to know and get closer to our own country.
