"It's Advent. The winter solstice is also approaching. The days are short, the nights are long. Little light, much darkness.
Just like every year, winter will sit down at the table in heavy split boots and stay for several months.
We are waiting for the birth of the baby Jesus. In a few days it will see the light of day in the crib, on the straw... and also in our rooms heated by the fire.
But other things are also happening. Witches gather at the crossroads, evil forces gain the most power of the year. They thrive in such darkness. You have to protect the kitchens, yourself and the cattle. So that the tangled tows and threads don't get tangled, so that your fingers don't swell when you have to do most of the work in the field in the summer...
We reach for garlic, steel and crosses. Benevolent winches are welcome under every roof. Little boys go around households. They wish us well...
We conjure a loved one, reveal witches, protect cows, ensure the health of the family. All under the cover of mystery and darkness. Until we see the light, until the baby Jesus is born in the warm room of each of us..."
