About event

NOMANTINELS and the Slovak National Center for Human Rights invite you to a two-day professional training focused on an affirmative approach in counseling and working with LGBTIQ+ people. The training will offer a safe space for the development of professional knowledge, the reflection of one's own attitudes and the acquisition of practical skills that can be used in psychological, counseling and
helping practice.

Who is the training intended for?

The training is intended for:
• psychologists,
• psychotherapists,
• staff in helping professions,
• students of psychology, social work and related fields,
• everyone who works with LGBTIQ+ people or wants to create a safer and more inclusive environment.

Content of the training

During the training we will focus on the following topics:
• basic concepts and terminology in the field of LGBTIQ+,
• minority stress and its impact on mental health,
• affirmative approach in therapy and counseling,
• specifics of working with queer clients,
• coming out, stigma and internalized shame,
• safe and respectful therapeutic relationship,
• work with prejudices and stereotypes in helping professions,
• practical case studies and model situations.
