AFRIKAMERA - CURRENT CINEMA FROM AFRICA
Event by: AFRIKAMERA
Location: Berlin Cathedral, Am Lustgarten, Berlin - Mitte
About event
From 2024 to 2027, the AFRIKAMERA film festival – CURRENT CINEMA FROM AFRICA will focus on diverse, inspiring, groundbreaking and sometimes contradictory perspectives on key social and political issues affecting the present and future of the African continent, with four main themes: BELIEVE * CHANGE * REFLECT and CREATE.
In addition to current productions, the CHANGE edition will focus on films that address common gender roles and their structural and social implications, question existing power relations and established norms, and use the medium of cinema to bring about social change. The focus will be on films by female/female-identified directors.
PROMIS LE CIEL (PROMISED SKY) (Tunisia/France/Qatar 2025) (11 Nov) by Erige Sehiri, which opens the festival as ARSENAL ON LOCATION at City Kino Wedding, deals with the topics of motherhood, independence, self-determination and faith, relating them to the misery of refugees and their struggle for survival – told from a female North African perspective.
This year's venues are: City Kino Wedding and Sinema Transtopia in Wedding, Brotfabrikkino in Weissensee, fsk Kino in Kreuzberg, Maaya Berlin in Friedrichshain, Haus der Kulturen in Tiergarten, Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung in Mitte
