About event
Afuriko is a jazz duo with African elements consisting of a percussionist Akiko Horia and a pianist/keyboardist Jim Funnell. Afuriko began experimenting in 2010, when Jim and Akiko crossed in Paris, as a result of following a common, non -remote call to Africa, its culture and diaspora.
The stories of ancestors on Djembe met with the modern colors of the keys and the playful intertwining of the tones and beats. From 2017 to January 2021, Akiko lived in Queens, New York, where they experienced, leaving the energy that radiates from the ethnically most diverse part of the world, to nourish their creative process every day. Their first two albums - On The Far Side (2014) and Style (2016) - were created with the support of SAC (French society of authors, composers and music publishers).
Their third opus Tao (2019), successfully financed on Kickstarter and published with a favorable response of critics with reviews on London Jazz News, All About Jazz and Peak Festival, is a shamanic jazz route from Africa to New York music and music of Enka.
