About event
Slovakia still relies on natural gas imports from Russia. So the urgent question is what will happen after the suspension of its transit through the territory of Ukraine from January 1, 2025. Ukraine refuses Russian transit, saying that it does not want to help Russia finance the war, but trade negotiations continue.
Slovakia can probably do without Russian gas – natural gas from Azerbaijan, its import from Germany, Croatia or Italy is at stake. However, the pipeline capacities of other routes and also the resulting fuel price are questionable – it is estimated that the transition to non-Russian gas will cost Slovakia hundreds of millions of euros.
- What scenarios are in play if gas transit through Ukraine ends?
- What price consequences will the stoppage of Russian gas have in Slovakia and Central Europe?
- The EU wants full the end of the import of Russian gas in 2027. What should Slovakia's next steps be in order to meet this goal? priemysel, a.s.
- Milan Sedláček, Head of European Affairs and Company Strategy, Eustream
- Alexander Duleba, Senior Researcher of the Research Center of the Slovak Society for Foreign Policy (RC SFPA)
Discussion will be moderated by Irena Jenčová, senior editor of the EURACTIV Slovensko portal.
