We will talk about families in crisis and substitute families, help options and also (collaboration) with families who take care of children with difficult life experiences. We will focus on the approaches we use in our programs, approaches that work for us and inspiration from our practice.

At workshops and discussions, we will look at situations together with you:

1. When a child is at risk of being taken away

When a child is at risk of being taken away from the family, we work with the family according to the intervention cycle or the cycle of work with the family at risk. This cycle aims to stabilize the child's situation and prevent him from being placed outside the family. The main steps include identifying the threat and searching for protective factors that can help the family. The workshop is intended for professionals who actively work with family social diagnostics, including understanding family dynamics, creating work plans with the family and prioritizing interventions. It also deals with appropriate steps to support the family in caring for the child. The content of the workshop will be the sharing of good experiences with methods of social diagnostics, such as genogram, life line, case conference and others. We will be guided through the workshop by Mgr. Danka Lieskovská, Mgr. Slávka Vojteková and Mgr. Ivana Kmeťová, social worker for families at risk at the Return Center in Bratislava.

2. When touch heals (also through touch therapy)

A workshop/seminar on the principles and inspirations of touch therapy can be useful for professionals who accompany families with a child who has difficulties in the area of physical contact (he is too sticky, withdrawing, not asking for touch, refusing touch, etc.) as a result of adverse experiences in early childhood - abandonment by parents, transfers between environments and changes of caregivers, abuse, abuse, neglect, etc. The workshop is intended for professionals who accompany caregivers and surrogate parents of children who have experienced inappropriate, dangerous or no touch in early childhood. We will be guided through the workshop by Mgr. Zuzana Nováková, social counselor, coordinator of the Return Center in Bratislava.

3. When a relationship needs to be repaired (inspirations from dyadic therapy)

We invite you to take a look at the counseling process through the glasses of ASTRA DDP - a unique, proven systematic approach focused on family therapy of children with adverse childhood experiences (ACE) and disturbed by the development of attachment relationships. It is based on the principles of Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (Daniel Hughes) and Attachment-focused Therapy (Arthur Becker-Weidman). It is often the last hope for families for whom other forms of counseling or therapy have not brought healing to broken fragile relationships. It is particularly suitable for children in foster care, but all children with difficulties in close relationships benefit from it. The workshop is mainly intended for experts - therapists, psychologists, social workers who work with families. ASTRA DDP is a specialized training program that we do with our clients, but which we also teach other experts. We will be guided through the workshop by Mgr. Naďa Lovecká and Mgr. Soňa Očkášová, psychologist at the Return Center in Bratislava.

4. When the child receives gifts and difficulties (which helps children with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders - FASD)

Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders is a common term for a spectrum of developmental disorders occurring in children of mothers who consumed or repeatedly consumed alcohol. You will learn how FAS/FASD manifests itself in a child and how it affects his overall development. On a specific case report, we will show what can help a child with his weaknesses and how to strengthen his strengths. At the individual workshops, we will focus on the survival of a child who has gone through difficult experiences in childhood and stabilization, relaxation and trauma processing techniques that will help him bear these experiences and manage them with the support of his parents. We will be guided through the workshop by Mgr. Zuzana Petrincová, social advisor at the Return Center in Bratislava.

We look forward to seeing you.
