Collective guilt – collective rights – different perspectives
How do we live together, Hungarians and Slovaks in Slovakia?
The lex Beneš, adopted by the parliament, once again put in the spotlight an unresolved and unspoken old question, which Slovaks and Hungarians experience completely differently. But is this the only topic that
causes tension between us? Or are there more, we just don't talk about them and sweep them under the carpet until we encounter them again in some current case?
Every Slovak has at least heard about the fact that Hungarians also live in Slovakia. But how much do Slovaks actually know about the Hungarian community? On the other hand, why do Hungarians in Slovakia repeatedly raise the issue of expanding rights, when at first glance it may seem that they already have "super-standard" rights and claims?
We often hear that Slovakian-Hungarian relations are historically
at the best level. To the extent that this statement is true, has a real dialogue developed between us? How deep is the dialogue between the two ethnicities?
We will also talk about these topics with our two guests, lawyer János Fial-Butor and editor-in-chief Martin Hanus. The discussion will be moderated by Zsófia Voda, the lead researcher of the project mi/y: parallel bubbles//párhuzamos bubrékok.
