MUSIC as MEDITATION

Concert series in the Christkönig Chapel in the St. Joseph Hospital Berlin-Tempelhof

Albert Schweitzer and Johann Sebastian Bach

The focus of this concert in the chapel of the St. Joseph Hospital Berlin is the chorale prelude "Ich call to you, Lord Jesus Christ" (BWV 639)

The humanist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Albert Schweitzer (1875–1965), whose 150th birthday we are celebrating this year, was one of the most fascinating personalities of the 20th century: theologian, philosopher, doctor and musician. In a time of profound upheaval, he combined intellectual depth with practical action and influenced generations with his ethic of “reverence for life”. Albert Schweitzer was also an important organ interpreter and expert on the organ compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach. The concert in St. Joseph honors this extraordinary, humanistic life and traces Schweitzer's interpretations and his relationship to Bach MEDITATION
