Albertina - Care Matters (Verbund Collection)

ALBERTINA, VIENNA

Care and Care secures the basis of human coexistence. The exhibition is dedicated to existential areas of care work. Artists use objects to create a contemporary sign language for the kitchen. They make care work – often invisible and carried out under precarious working conditions – visible. They address motherhood in the context of the art world. Touching photographs of elderly care show intergenerational cohesion.

The show illustrates the artistic change from the feminist avant-garde of the 1970s to contemporary positions. The exhibition of the VERBUND COLLECTION, curated by founding director Gabriele Schor, aims to contribute to the appreciation of the care work that is predominantly carried out by women.
