About event

We planned the meeting with Alexandra Salmela long ago in cooperation with Anasoft Litera and ASPEKT publishing house. The fact that we can welcome her as a laureate of the Anasoft Litera award pleased us as well, and we will certainly talk about it as well. But there is more.

Alexandra Salmela studied theater dramaturgy at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and Finnish philology and literature at Charles University in Prague. He lives in Finland, in Tampere. He publishes in Finnish and Slovak, translates. Her first novel 27 or Death Makes an Artist (Sol. Q 111, 2011; orig. 27 eli kuolema teee taiteilijan, 2010) won the Helsingin Sanomat Daily Prize. In Slovak, it made it to the finals of the Anasoft litera prize, just like the novel Antihero (Slovak Artforum, 2017; orig. Antisankari, 2015). During the translation of Salmela's first novel, she collaborated with Silvia Žilinská, the other texts are exclusively author's translations. Together with the illustrator Martina Matlovičová, she creates books for children: Giraffe Mama and Other Monsters, Tree, Phantasmagoric Friend. She rewrote the first two series of the popular animated series Mimi and Líza into literary and radio form. She is interested in borders of all kinds, physical and mental shifts, form and language. He occasionally devotes himself to drama and performing arts. In his spare time, he walks.
In 2024, the author's translation of the episodic prose 56, či? (56, oletan).

Alexandra Salmela with prose 56, or? became the laureate of the Anasoft litera 2025 award. The book is nominated for the René award.

This time, short texts and text fragments of various styles are hidden under the terse title. In each of them, the Self is reincarnated into a different form – This woman, Penelope, Jane, Salome... or Pandora. The author's translation into Slovak from Finnish re-examines the diversity of language expression and the visual aspects of the text. Sad and smiling, low and high, poetic and down-to-earth, touching and poignant, tragic and ironic intermingle here. The process of writing the book followed the real course of the year, which, in addition to personal disasters, was also affected by the global pandemic: Every week, the text, and something else.
