About event
☘️ 3rd concert of the summer part of the 7th year of the chamber music festival in the Domus & Hortus Artis 2026 house and garden of the Albrecht House
🎵 At the beginning of the program, Alia Fantasia by Nicola Matteis will be played - a work that seems to have fallen out of context. His musical language is inaudibly rooted in the baroque, familiar to the listener with its sound and gesture, while the composer remains largely unknown to this day. An introduction that looks for something familiar in the unknown. This idea takes us directly to the second Sonata in A minor by Eugèn Ysaÿe. Its beginning will initially remind us of J.S. Bach - music that belongs to familiar tones. However, the primordial certainty is broken: the quote dissolves, transforms, and Ysaÿe develops her own, expressive sound language. The sonata almost obsessively bypasses Bach as an unattainable ideal. Even the constant returns of the theme of the Dies irae chorale refer to the origin of the Western musical tradition – as an echo of something familiar that turns into the irrevocable...Thomas Larcher, a composer from Tyrol, created a sound world that challenges listeners with his work Similaun. Truncated, fragmentary and very intense - a conscious leap into the depths of the unknown. Similarly, Werner Pirchner, also from Austria, with his composition Shalom? moves between two worlds. His work is less well known, but his musical language seems familiar to us in a way - like a return to a feeling of closeness, without real reach.
