About event

Prof. RNDr. Bohumír Janský, CSc. (Charles University, Faculty of Science) has been researching the sources of the Amazon since 1990, when he taught at the Peruvian universities in Lima and Cusco. He collaborated with the Peruvian geographer Dr. Carlos Peñaherrera. In 1995, he prepared the first expedition to Peru, where he visited the province of Cailloma. The "Hatun Mayu 1999" expedition measured the Carhuasanta River and identified it as the main source of the Amazon. Due to doubts, the "Hatun Mayu 2000" expedition was organized, which confirmed that the Amazon does not have a single source, but four mountain rivers. The latest research has again confirmed that the main source is the Carhuasanta River. Samuel Fritz, a Jesuit of Czech origin, created one of the first maps of the Amazon.
