Amsterdam 750: An ode to the most beautiful district
On the occasion of the 750th birthday of Amsterdam we focus our attention on the most dynamic district of the city, Amsterdam Southeast. Although this district is younger than other parts of the city, Southeast has a rich and complex history. What are the stories of the residents? Which less well -known stories remain undisturbed? In a hybrid exhibition, in which visual arts made by Airich, Dion Rosina and Jesper Buursink is combined with a short movie, the unique culture of Southeast comes to life.
In the short film, made by Sammy Shifa Idris, Rotjoch (Angelo Diop) goes together with storytellers and artists; Ernestine Comvalius, Orville Breeveld, George Adegite, Ocho & IBS, Sarah-Jane, Mr. Jetfly (Marlon Francis), Cho (Giovanni Essed), MC Lost en ook Dion Rosina, AiRich en Jesper Buursink op pad door Zuidoost.
Samen bezoeken ze drie publieke kunstwerken uit de Buitenkunst Amsterdam collectie genaamd, ‘Kariatidenzuil’ door Joost Barbiers, ‘City Cells’ door Karin van Dam, and ‘Nelson Mandela Memorial: Rona Batho "by Mohau Modisakeng". In the videos, the participants discuss how these works are connected to themes that are relevant to the identity of the district and the experience of the community.
Program will be announced soon.
