About event
Het Barre Land is a unique collaboration between Amsterdam Sinfonietta and ISH Dance Collective. The performance is based on the poem of the same name by T.S. Eliot wrote more than a hundred years ago and was inspired by music by the Iranian composer Farokzhad Layegh. The world Eliot sketches has many similarities with today's world, in which challenges continue to pile up: war, poverty, loneliness, climate crisis. However, hope and will are never lost.
In Het Barre Land, stirring string music and acrobatic dance take you on a quest towards the future, from darkness to light. In an endless cycle of decline and rebirth, the musicians and dancers challenge each other to push their own boundaries with different music styles and dance forms. The music you hear is by Michael Nyman, Bryce Dessner, Fazil Say, Igor Stravinsky, Arvo Pärt, Valentin Silvestrov and the aforementioned Farokzhad Layegh.
