The band Anatoli will perform with songs in the style of rebetiko, which is the Greek underground of the first half of the 20th century. This is the music of the poorest strata, mainly Greeks from Asia Minor, who left their homes in 1921 after losing the Greco-Turkish war and set out for an uncertain future further west. These songs, which combined Eastern melodiousness with Western harmony in an interesting way, mostly tell about the life of the oppressed, about the life of people living in lawlessness, about poverty, sadness and grief. The lyrics were mercilessly censored at the time and rebetes (followers of this style) were prosecuted...
