Anja Huwe is the legendary singer of the post-punk pioneers "Xmal Deutschland". After the band's success with four albums on cult labels such as 4 AD Records, Huwe pursued a career in the visual arts, but continued to devote herself to her passion for music. At the beginning of 2024 she celebrated her return to the band with a bang with the successful release of her solo album CODES as well as exclusive re-releases of early Xmal Deutschland tracks, both on Sacred Bones Records, New York international music scene.
The album, written and produced together with Mona Mur - also an 80s protagonist - is characterized by Murs' distinctive electronic sounds as well as Manuela Rickers' unique Xmal guitar style. The international press from The Guardian to Rolling Stone, from THE WIRE to Galore celebrated the “comeback of the year” and the album with rave reviews and called for the artist's return to the stage. Due to this demand, Anja Huwe decided to present her exquisite solo album “CODES” live on stage - together with a solid selection of Xmal Germany classics in modern interpretations - with a new band line-up, staged with her distinctive visuals.
Your triumphant first concert in decades - as headliner of the GRAUZONE Festival in The Hague in February 2025 - has already made pop history.
