«The four seasons», composed in 1723, is one of Vivaldi's most famous works and an excellent example of program music. Each concerto is linked to a sonnet, possibly written by Vivaldi itself, in which the scenes are described in the music. Vivaldi ingeniously used musical techniques to simulate natural sounds, such as birds singing in the spring and dogs that bark in the summer. The concerts were revolutionary for their time and showed Vivaldi's innovative use of harmony and instrumental techniques.
