Apresentação do Livro "Os Judeus e a Comédia" de Jeremy Dauber

Erudite and fun. The reference book that explains Jewish humor with great humor. If the reader thinks that when he opens this book he will find jokes about Jews... he is right. Everything is susceptible to becoming humorous material – persecution, the diaspora, Zionism. From the vulgar joke to the witty tale, the Jewish talent for comedy is a very serious but never dour object of study. There are many theories that attempt to explain Jewish humor – most of them by Jewish authors. This book, both erudite and entertaining, traces the evolution of Jewish talent for comedy, from biblical times to the age of Twitter. Jeremy Dauber identifies the seven fundamental characteristics of Jewish comedy – from a witty tone to a vulgar edge. From Kafka to Philip Roth, from the Marx brothers to Woody Allen, through Mel Brooks and MAD magazine, we are led to discover, with seriousness and wisdom, the comic side of some very serious subjects. (And vice versa.)
