Santa Maria Maior Gallery promotes, between the 7th and 30th of November, the exhibition Aqui Já Não É, by Luísa Pacheco, a renowned production designer, art director and set designer with over thirty years of experience.
HERE IS OVER
When we embark on exploring Queer and Gender rights , we find ourselves immersed in the intricate network of sociocultural impositions and restrictions. In this thought-provoking context, we turn our gaze to the presence of the erotic, not as a force that drives identity and action, but as a mirror that reflects its meaning within each individual and in society as a whole.
I examine the complex realm of impulses, the relentless pressures to conform to established notions of femininity, and their iconic representations as determinants of gender. In the very idea of possession, in the transformative power of styles and appearances and in the disconcerting commodification of this multifaceted identity.
It is a way of life where femininity is at once a commodity and a currency, but by escaping From these conventional norms, we can discover paths and limitations. This dystopia paints a vivid picture of conventions that suffocate us with their labels and limiting behaviors whenever a label is imposed.
In my creative journey, I create objects that capture the very essence of fleeting moments suspended between thinking and feeling – the in-between space where I meticulously document shapes and colors. This artistic process gives rise to a visual language that seeks to transcend mere emotions and rationality, freeing us from the chains of sociocultural norms that often imprison us in suffocating stereotypes.
It's about the act of assuming a pose, the omnipresent pressure of conformity and the commodification of one’s identity. We navigate a market where individuals are trapped by an idealized image of beauty, femininity and desirability – a market that tirelessly seeks to define us.
