Presentation of the book Archivists on the Road combined with an autograph session and a smiling walk through medieval history by authors DANIELA DVOŘÁKOVA and MIRIAM HLAVAČKOVA.
Do you know those dusty mysterious rooms from the movies where old deeds and documents are stored? They are archives, although in reality they are quite different from this cinematic idea. They contain thousands, tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of historical documents - so many that the documents are not counted individually, but placed in boxes that are placed next to each other and their length is measured. Some archives have tens of kilometers of documents! Daniela Dvořáková and Miriam Hlavačková, historians of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and traveling archivists, ran whole marathons studying period documents. Interesting finds from the archives are shared in the podcast Archivists on the Road, but, unfortunately, podcasts, unlike books, do not smell. Paper made of cellulose and lignin is also transformed into the substance vanillin during decomposition, thanks to which books smell like vanilla. Since they adore the vanilla scent of books, they decided to give the stories from the archives a book form. Don't worry, you won't be running marathons with them! In this entertaining illustrated book, you will be taken on a fun walk through history.
