30 seconds to the Renaissance: the last novel of the Middle Ages
In the lecture “30 seconds to the Renaissance” we will talk about turning points. Что происходит с человеком и текстом на границе эпох? Where does the religious picture of the world end and the humanistic one begin? And is it true that such (seemingly) distant literature of the Middle Ages is much closer to us than we think?
In search of answers to these questions, we will look back 600 years - to those years when the thousand-year-old medieval world was cracking under the pressure of a new era. We will look at the last great novel of the Middle Ages and try to grasp how a new time was born - and how it was reflected in literature.
Our guides will be those who lived at the junction - from Geoffrey Chaucer and Leonardo da Vinci to the main character of this lecture - the knight-prisoner Sir Thomas Malory. This is a meeting for those who want to understand how a person changes when the world changes. This is a meeting about the dislocated joint of the century – including ours.
