Vetrarsól – A special holiday with Árstíðir
December 11th, 2025 • Berlin • Frannz Club
Entry 7:00 p.m. Start: 8:00 p.m.
After the Icelandic band ÁRSTÍÐIR 2024 releases their album with the popular, traditional Christmas program Vetrarsól released, they are coming to European cities again this year. The tour covers 14 cities in Germany, France, Austria and Switzerland.
ÁRSTÍÐIR's annual Christmas concert is a tradition that dates back to 2008, the same year the band was founded. Around the darkest days of December, the group steps away from their normal repertoire for a special evening. They evoke the spirit of winter and homely holiday cheer with a delightful mix of their most wintry songs and traditional Icelandic and Nordic Christmas chorales, arranged especially for the occasion. To top it all off,
there are some stories about Icelandic Christmas traditions. Every year the show takes place in the same wooden church, known as Frikírkjan, in the heart of Reykjavík
. This tradition has become a popular event among the band's fans.
Starting in 2018, ÁRSTÍÐIR has expanded the tradition to Europe, taking the show on tour in the weeks leading up to Christmas. The title "Vetrarsól" translates as "winter sun" - during the concert the band illuminates the winter darkness with intimate arrangements and harmonious singing. After the release of the album for the “Vetrarsól” 2024 program and a successful December tour, ÁRSTÍÐIR are now once again looking forward to bringing beautiful
northern light moments into people’s hearts and minds.
They had previously released the two related albums “Pendúll” (release 2021) and “Blik” (release 2022). Their passion for vocal harmonies brought the singing trio together during their studies. The chemistry is right, they have become almost like brothers and bring their pop, which is influenced by Icelandic traditions, to the world, with acoustic or electronic backing.
