Art Spiegelman: Disaster Is My Muse

The documentary Disaster Is My Muse closer to Art Spiegelman - a comic book creator who was born in 1948 in Stockholm, grew up in Queens, New York, and caused a revolution in the world of comics by exploring dark and complex topics. Spiegelman's most famous work Maus, formed by his parents' experience and trauma, the survivors of the Shoah, and inspired by the disrespectful satire of Mad magazine, is a moving intergenerational narrative of the Holocaust that redefined the whole medium - and won the Pulitzer Prize as the first comics. The film captures Spiegelman's resistance to fascism, shows a wide range of his comic book work and thus represents the breadth of his influence as an artist and cultural critic. The film features a number of other comic books, including Robert Crumb.
