Artist Showcase: Jalena Carlisle

Jalena Carlisle’s Better in Person showcases: an 8-year self-taught journey—from henna to portraits and murals celebrating Black culture.

Featured artist Jalena Kauilyn Carlisle presents Better in Person (B.I.P.), a debut solo showcase that reflects an eight-year journey of creative exploration. Rooted in the belief that everyone has the power to create, Jalena’s work is driven by patience, passion, and personal growth rather than formal training.

Beginning with henna, her artistic practice has evolved into detailed portraits and vibrant murals that honor identity, connection, and culture. Better in Person reveals a side of Jalena that extends beyond academics and athletics, offering an intimate look at her artistic evolution and lived experience.

This exhibition is both a personal milestone and a broader celebration of Black cultural expression—inviting viewers to engage with art that is thoughtful, expressive, and deeply human.
