About event

We cordially invite you to the launch of the new edition of FOTOGRAF magazine and a meeting with Libuša Jarcovjáková on the occasion of the pop-up exhibition Libuša Jarcovjáková: Photographer in Galeria Fotograf.

18:00 launch of FOTOGRAF magazine #48: About Me
18:30 Artist Talk: Libuše Jarcovjáková

PHOTOGRAPHER #48: About Me
Let's talk about ourselves. Let's find out what we are and find who we are. It is important because just as it is necessary to look around you, it is essential to look within yourself. How does our self change over time? And how to capture all this? For this issue, we decided to follow authors who ask themselves similar questions and who also have the ability to reflect them visually in an interesting way. Emília Rigová thematizes the position of the Roma minority for a long time and through work with her own body emphasizes the voice of the Roma, which is often relegated to the margins. Libuše Jarcovjáková has been devoted to photographic self-reflection since an early age, and her photographs and diary entries capture the ideological tension of collapsing socialism or life in LGBTQ+ subcultures. A strong line is the theme of gender and queer identity woven into the works of Dorota Franková, Robert Gabris, Sashi Chaika, František Fekete and Shalva Nikvashvili. The original artistic self-therapy, which usually also requires a considerable amount of courage to reveal oneself, here becomes the therapy of society.

Let's talk about ourselves. Let's find out what we are and find out who we are. It's important, because just as it's necessary to look around, it's essential to look within ourselves. How does our self change over time? And how do we capture all this? For this issue, we have chosen to follow an author who asks similar questions and who also has the ability to reflect them in an interesting visual way. Emília Rigová has long been thematizing the position of the Roma minority and through her work with her own corporeality she emphasizes the voice of the Roma, which is often marginalized. Libuše Jarcovjáková has been engaged in photographic self-reflection from an early age, and her photographs and diary entries capture the ideological tensions of crumbling socialism or LGBTQ+ life in subcultures. A strong lineage is the theme of gender and queer identity woven into the work of Dorota Frank, Robert Gabris, Sasha Chaika, František Fekete and Shalva Nikvashvili. The original artistic self-therapy, which usually requires a considerable amount of courage to reveal oneself, becomes here a therapy of society.
