Real estate agent Hutter travels from Wisborg to Transylvania, where he unknowingly sells a property to the sinister Count Orlok. When he wakes up with bite marks on his neck and learns Orlok's true identity, Hutter is unable to stop the earl from bringing plague and death to Wisborg. Hutter's wife Ellen senses an impending tragedy and sees the only option to save the town...
F.W. Murnau's film, the first film adaptation of Stoker's novel "Dracula", is an icon of the horror genre. Its impact is not based on staged violence or artificial atmosphere, but on the contrast between the rigidity of the vampire Nosferatu and the energy of the young Hutter, and on the contrast between the abandoned Carpathian castle and the Biedermeier atmosphere of the town of Wisborg.
