The main heroine of the film Year of the Widow she is Petra's interpreter, who, due to a tragic event, has to come to terms with the fact that she has become a widow at the age of forty. She soon discovers that heartbreak isn't the only challenge she has to face. Added concern for a teenage daughter and pressure from a manipulative mother-in-law.
And then there is the entire bureaucratic machinery that comes to life with a person's death: mortgages, loans, rents, fees, endless probate. However, among the ruins of her life, Petra finds step by step the courage to start anew and return to the world from which her main point of support has disappeared...
