PROGRAM
Conversation conducted by Pedro Boléo with guest Olivier Blanc, around sound design in cinema and in the film “Gunda” by Victor Kossakovsky.
Screening of the film “Gunda” (2020) by Victor Kossakovsky (M/6 · 93 min).
In “Gunda”, the director reminds us that we share the our planet with billions of farm animals. The encounter with a mother pig (the eponymous Gunda), two cunning cows and an exuberant one-legged chicken reminds us of the inherent value of life and the mystery of the consciousness of all animals, including our own.

BEHIND THE SOUND AND IMAGE
Animal Music
A pig, a dog, a donkey – these will be the main characters of the three films to be shown at the cycle Atrás do Som e da Imagem on the 13th, 14th and 15th of December 2024, at O'culto da Ajuda in Lisbon.
Curated by Jakub Szczypa, the fourth edition of the Atrás do Som cycle e da Imagem presents, under the theme of “Animal Music”, the films “Gunda” (2020) by Victor Kossakovsky (Friday), “Coração de Dog” (2015) by Laurie Anderson (Saturday) and “EO” (2022) by Jerzy Skolimowski with music by Paweł Mykietyn (Sunday). At the beginning of the last session, there will also be a small concert by Duo Komorebi – Camila Mandillo (soprano) and João Casimiro de Almeida (piano) – who will perform “Shakespeare's Sonnets” (2000) by Paweł Mykietyn.
As is usual in the “Atrás do Som e da Imagem” cycle, all films will be preceded by a conversation in order to reveal to the public some of the mysteries and codes of interactions between sound and image in the films presented. The conversations will be led by Pedro Boléo, with guest Olivier Blanc, in the first session, and with the participation of the cycle's curator Jakub Szczypa in the remaining sessions.
Sessions begin at 7:30 pm at O'culto da Help, in Lisbon. There are tickets for each session and also a pass for the entire cycle.
During the cycle, money will also be raised that will go to Associação Amigo Fiel, in Bombarral, a shelter to combat animal abandonment pet.
