About event
Start: January 14, 2026 | Course duration: 10 units, 15 hours in total, 1½ hours, 1 time per week
Auditory voice analysis: Listening to, understanding and specifically developing the singing voice
Ideal for anyone who wants to teach singing or understand their own voice better.
Recommendation: The voice physiology course serves as the basis for this course, which teaches important anatomical and functional connections.
- What can you expect from this course? Course?
In this course you will learn how to hear voices correctly, analyze them and further develop them in a targeted manner. You will learn how you can get clues about vocal function through careful listening.
With the help of functional hearing, empathy and working with mirror neurons, you will learn to better perceive vocal processes in yourself and others. This way you can identify the causes and choose appropriate exercises.
- Listen – but correctly
It all starts with listening carefully. What does a tone sound like? Is it light, soft, pressed or free? With a little practice, you can learn not only to hear such differences, but also to interpret them. This is called auditory voice analysis.
There is also some physics behind it: every sound has measurable properties such as timbre (frequencies and noises) and loudness. In acoustic phonetics, we look at how these characteristics arise - and what you can change about your voice to sound different.
The muscles of your tongue, those in the soft palate, your jaw and throat muscles also play a big role - they shape the sound very finely. And depending on how much breathing pressure you give, the sound sounds strong or rather soft.
- How can you train your hearing?
We work with a special type of hearing - functional hearing. As you listen, you unconsciously feel how the sound is created. You recognize movements in the other person's body: in the larynx, in their breathing, in their posture.
This works because so-called mirror neurons are active in your nervous system. They help you empathize and go along with it – physically and sonically. In this way, you develop a fine ear for voices and can help in a targeted manner or control your own voice better.
- And what does all this mean for me?
When you hear how a sound is created - and why it perhaps doesn't sound the way you want - you can start specifically. You will learn to recognize voice problems, find the right exercises and develop your voice in a healthy and powerful way.
