The event “On Both Sides of the Wall – Is the History of Migration Really Male?” is dedicated to the little-known stories of migrant women in the Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR. The focus is on guest workers and contract workers – the often forgotten women of migration history. Their contribution to society was broad: in work, economy, culture, religion, civil society and in the transmission of language and cultural heritage. The challenges they were and are faced with, the persistent clichés and ways to make their stories more visible are discussed.

El evento “A ambos lados del muro – ¿es realmente masculina la historia de la migración?” Se centra en las histories poco conocidas de las migrantes en la República Federal de Alemania y en la República Democrática Alemana. Se resaltan las experiencias de las trabajadoras invitadas y contrastadas —las hermanas olvidadas de la historia migratoria—, cuyo aporte fue amplio en el trabajo, la economía, la cultura, la religion, la sociedad civil y la transmisión lingüística y cultural.
