Aus der Tiefe der Zeit. Bartóks musikalisches Universum
From the depths of time. Bartók's musical universe

About event
Béla Bartók's compositional way of thinking continues to inspire musicians from a wide variety of genres around the world to this day. His music - still visionary today - is rooted in an ancient treasure trove of melodies that sounded exotic and foreign even to Bartók when he first encountered it. In 1904, the young composer heard archaic Hungarian folk songs for the first time; At the very last moment before oblivion, he began collecting them and documented several thousand melodies from the folk music of the various nationalities in the Carpathian Basin.
Our concert spans centuries. The folk singer Fruzsina Hódi lets these songs sound in an authentic form - as Bartók himself might have once heard them. Afterwards, Zsófia Bódi and László Stachó present Bartók's most extraordinary and rarely heard folk song arrangements - including a selection from the magnum opus of the genre, the "Twenty Hungarian Folk Songs", as well as from the cycle "Village Scenes", which contains stirring Slovak folk song arrangements. These works show the ingenious and diverse compositional instruments Bartók used to approach folk music.
The time frame of the concert ranges from the traditions of rural music to 20th century America. The trio of the Chamber Orchestra of the Greater Region presents the virtuoso work "Kontraste", which Bartók wrote in 1938 at the request of Benny Goodman, the world-famous jazz clarinetist: a piece in which the essence of Central European folk music merges with the sound world of the avant-garde.
Following the concert, we invite the audience to a panel discussion with the evening's participants a.
