The Berlin artist Eva Schönfeld combines technical mastery with deep socially critical and emotional themes. Her works, created from personal experience and social commitment, invite reflection and conversation. Eva Schönfeld works in two impressive painting styles:

Watercolor and pastel works: Unconventional on brown wrapping paper, with socially critical and psychological themes that portray feelings, inner struggles and social questions in detail.

Oil and acrylic paintings: Strong colors, surrealism and unusual compositions that take the viewer on an imaginative journey and radiate liveliness.

"Art has helped me to still be here. Instead of taking drugs, I paint."

Eva Schönfeld, a freelance artist in Berlin-Pankow, paints pictures that you won't forget. They talk about life in all its facets, about fear, hope, anger, sadness, being a woman, relationships, feminism, nature, illness, connection, war and dreams. All of this with the highest technical precision and an extraordinary mix of different styles and materials, which fascinates and immediately captivates the viewer.

"When I paint, I express everything that is inside me - my anger, fears, questions, my opinions. I need art as an outlet to get everything that concerns me inside and outside out of my system. I need that in order to be able to live."

Eva Schönfeld sees herself with severe mental illness at a young age confronted with illness. Art helps her to find her way back to life and to heal, little by little. But the artist not only processes her own inner themes and experiences, but also social and political issues in her works.

She has been painting and drawing since she was a child. From an early age she developed a great ambition to continually improve her technique and learned the craft with the help of self-taught books. “I painted huge rolls of fax paper and spent countless hours of my childhood and youth painting and drawing,” says Eva Schönfeld in an interview.

All of the artist’s works have one thing in common: they address themes, but do not scream at the viewer. They express an opinion and invite conversation instead of offending people. They are about fears, illness and dreams, but in all of this they do not cause fear, but rather, despite all their directness, they convey hope in a surprising way.

It is probably the authenticity, vulnerability and honesty in Eva Schönfeld's art that achieves this balancing act. The viewer feels picked up and understood, with the artist in the same boat, which perhaps - hopefully - ultimately heads for a calm and safe harbor.

The title of the exhibition "female gaze", or in German "feminine gaze", describes a feminist perspective that focuses on the representation of women in art, media and culture. It's about how women are seen and portrayed. The aim is to create a representation that goes beyond pure objectification and highlights the complexity, individuality and inner world of women.
