In March 1982, ENTWERTER/ODER, an original graphic artist magazine, was created in East Berlin. The founders were Uwe Warnke and Siegmar Körner. The pages of the magazine were designed by various well-known artists and can now be seen from November 7th, 2025 to April 12th, 2026 in the exhibition ENTWERTER/ODER and the so-called "magazine nonsense" in the Willy Brandt House.
500 artists from 15 countries took part in a total of 130 issues of ENTWERTER/ODER. The exhibition shows works from all of the magazine's creative periods with a focus on the 1980s. You can see graphics of all techniques, photographs, objects, manuscripts and texts. ENTWERTER/ODER was an attempt to create a magazine that went beyond approval and control procedures, to act self-determined and to offer a podium for contributions from young authors and artists. Among those present were Claus Bach, Kurt Buchwald, Harald Hauswald, Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt, Strawalde and Peter Wawerzinek. On the occasion of the exhibition, a final issue of ENTWERTER/ODER will be published in November 2025.
